Prayer, what would Jesus do?

  • But Jesus would often slip away to the wilderness and pray – Luke 5:16
  • After he had sent the crowds away, he went up on the mountainside by himself to pray, and when it was evening he was there alone – Matthew 14:23
  • In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place and prayed there – Mark 1:35
  • It was this time that he went off to the mountain to pray, and he spent the whole night in prayer to God – Luke 6:12

While reading the Gospel of Luke, I was reminded and encouraged that Jesus was intentional in praying. So l looked up other verses that shared the same thing.

A good reminder because sometimes the distance between Jesus and us can feel long. He is Jesus after all, God in the flesh, but we read even that he needed to be alone to pray.

It’s encouraging because life can get busy, and lots of things can get in the way of making time to have a chat with God. But we are not rabbi’s and don’t have crowds following us and demanding our attention. Thankfully our prayer times wont be as hectic as hectic as Jesus’s.

Is a regular prayer time something that you practice, or do you find it a bit of a challenge to make time for it?

I want to urge you to make it a habit to slip away like Jesus did to spend time with God. It can be hard work I know, but worth our time and energy. I know from experience, the cost of neglecting making time with God, and I’m sure you do as well.

If it was important to Jesus, then we will benefit as well.

Father God, we thank you for the opportunity and the privilege that you have given us through the activity of prayer. In our heads we get the importance of spending quality time with you, but often struggle when it comes to the doing. Help us Lord to be intentional with this aspect of knowing you just as we see Jesus doing in your word. Amen

  1. Such a great reminder! And I really appreciate the tone of your post. There’s no shame or guilt involved, just loving encouragement. Thanks! Too often I read things where I leave feeling “not good enough.” Spending time with God because you SHOULD isn’t a very good reason. But your article makes people WANT to. 🙂

    1. LOL, I was deciding whether I would say anything (I’m the one that called her blog “Seeking Divine Perpsective” for over a year!). When I read “He sent the crows away,” I thought at first it was referring to Elijah, who was fed by ravens … (*eye roll*)

    2. Lol!!! Your forgiven Bruce, I have made worst mistakes than that, thankfully I get my wife to have a read before I post…but sometimes I still slip up like that. I wonder though if animals also stopped to listen to him? I think you have inspired another post. Thanks! 😉

    1. Howdy, thank you for dropping by, you are right about what we drop first.

The first day back in the office was enjoyable but mentally exhausting! I would rather work at home full time but doesn’t look like that will be happening.. What about you?

Thank you for this, Evad. Like you said, Jesus was a very VERY busy guy, yet he still sought and found quiet times with His Father.
Surely we can do the same!
    Blessings!

  3. Great reminder as I am not even out of my jammies and the world is coming at me like a hurricane! I wasn’t even out of bed when I got my first text wanting me to fix something. Pray for me. God bless!

  4. Wonderful post! I can’t get through a day without prayer. It is very important to me. Though sometimes I forget that sometimes it’s good to just have a regular chat to God. It’s also wonderful to see what he says to you in The Bible. What a wonderful God we have. Thank you for reminding me of this today. God bless 😊🙏🏽

  5. I find that whenever I starve myself of prayer, I begin to lose my joy and become highly irritable. But there is always a “phew” feeling when I come back to my secret place😊
