Do your plans align with God’s purposes?
Proverbs 19:21 – Many are the plans in the mind of man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
I went and sat to pray through a small list I had written, areas that I wanted to grow in, so it was important for me to commit them to God. Just before I got started, Proverbs 19:21 flashed in my mind, I remember reading and highlighting it 2 days before. After reading the verse I went back to the list I made to check if they were things that mattered to God.
The bible is spot on, we have many plans in our minds, and if we are not careful, those plans can sometimes distract us from the things of God. While there is nothing wrong with planning in our mind, there is always a danger that those plans have more to do with us than Gods agenda.
Jonah is a great example of Gods Purposes standing above our own plans. You may not end up in the belly of a sea creature, but if God needs to get your attention because your plans have nothing to do with his, he will. We read in Jonah1:1-17 how God called Jonah, but Jonah had decided that his plans were better, so he went in the opposite direction. In the end God’s original instructions were followed.
If it is Gods purposes that will be left standing, it is important for the body of Christ to make sure that we know what’s important to him. When this becomes our priority, we can be sure that our plans will align with his.
Lord, thank for your word that is alive and active. May we not be like Jonah who decided his plans were better than yours, and I pray that we will take the time to know what is important to you, so our plans are full of your purpose. Amen.
As my pastor friend says, “If you can’t say ‘amen,’ say ‘ouch!'” This is spot on!
