Spiritual Food for thought -Our loss can lead to life

The Lord is close to the Brokenhearted, he rescues those whose spirits are crushed – Psalm 34:18

Our culture routinely interprets losses as alien invasions that interrupt our “normal” lives. We numb our pain through denial, blaming, rationalizations, addictions and avoidance. We search for spiritual shortcuts around our wounds. We demand others take away our pain. Yet we all face many deaths within our lives. The choice is whether these deaths will be terminal (crushing our spirit and life) or open us up to new possibilities and depths of transformation in Christ. – Peter Scazzero, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality

Lord God we are thankful for your mercies that are new each day, and that our difficult times and trials do not have the last say. Please help us to make that choice to see the many  deaths we experience as opportunities to know you more,  strengthen our walk in Christ and to show mercy to the people we cross paths with day to day.

If you have found this post helpful or have experienced what the author is talking about with that choice, feel free to leave a comment.

  1. The beautiful reality of our pain and our suffering, can by the Spirit, conform and mould is into deeper relational beings. Beings who acknowledge that all avenues of life which are hard and painful, are actually purposed for our greater good and for God’s glory. In light of this, it makes sense why we can rejoice and have joy in trials, because trials and hardship can and do conform us, deeper into the image of Jesus. This is a place we all should want to be. This is where consistent joy and peace is found.

      1. Hey Dave, yes indeed. Experiencing pain and suffering is common for me, but learning how God is using that for my greater good, and for my conformity to Christ, is something I have come to appreciate, on a deeper level over the years of following Him. So when I experience pain and suffering, I look forward to the better outcome of it, that being me becoming more like Christ.

  2. “In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) This verse can disturb me or encourage me, depending on whether I’m going through an easy time or hard time when I read it.
Trials can definitely help us grow, but I confess there are days when I’d rather not … :/

    1. Yes I agree for sure, sometimes it’s to much effort. I reckon though during those times, God who is sovereign and sees the bigger picture, also sees our hearts and understands that during those times we don’t need to fight, we just need grace? Thoughts

      1. I tend to dread the thought of trials when times are easy, because I don’t seem to have the courage to endure them. – But when times are easy I don’t NEED the courage. But when the trial does come, God gives me what I need at that time. I think He does it that way on purpose, so we learn to trust Him, and not try to “save up” our own strength for the future.
I’m not sure that makes as much sense in writing as it did in my head. 😉

      2. Thanks for taking the time to comment. “God gives you what you need at the time” I think that’s spot on. If we remembered that at all times imagine!

  3. Death for death sake vs death for new life. I particularly like to lean into death experiences and wrestle with God till the I’m consciously aware of the new life that he offers. Bit like Jacob wrestling till he gets blessed. Your a legend keep up the reflections
