Born again identity – Bold and confident

Ephesians 3:12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

As I continue to read and study through the book of Ephesians, I am seeing how much of my identity I have placed in valueless temporary things over the years. I have also come to realise that one of the biggest reasons I have found it tough approaching God, is mostly because of an un-renewed mind when it comes to how he sees me.

In earlier posts, I have written about our relocation as Christians, that we are already blessed and that we have been made alive with Christ Jesus. If you haven’t had a chance to read them then I encourage you to take a look.  In chapter 3, Paul tells us something that is a game changer when it comes to our faith journey, especially when it comes to approaching God.

I have spent a number of weeks meditating on the scriptures I have been writing about, and it has been awesome to sit and chew on what they all mean for my life, but Ephesians 3:12 has impacted me the most. Because of past addiction and believing in lies, while I have always spent time praying, I have come to realise that my coming to God has more been out of fear than confidence at times.  (wow, realising this as I write).

A Christian can memorize all the scripture they need to know about their new identity in Christ, but if for whatever reason if you still don’t believe that you can approach God with freedom, then what’s the point of it all? Because of Jesus Christ, we are now able to come into Gods presence and know without a doubt that he welcomes us. This access and his acceptance of us exists because of his nature, the blood of Christ and our faith in the promises of Jesus.

The benefits we have as being part of the body of Christ are pretty amazing. It is really important that we are renewing our minds on a daily basis, especially when it comes to our born again identity and how we let lies get in the way of living our new life. I no longer want to waste the gifts that have already been given to me. So will you join me in coming to God with freedom, without all the bells and whistles, the many words and attempts at putting on a show? He is waiting for us.

I would love to read your thoughts and experiences on this peace of scripture.

  1. freedom is the thing that scares me the most – it is much easier to approach God out of my fear and yet approaching Him out of my fear is so damaging. I am working out my salvation trying to understand how to have Godly fear and trembling rather than man made fear and trembling

  2. To fear God is understandable, as Dave said, to have Godly fear and trembling.

As strong as we may look at prophets and disciples, for example, they still very much had both an earthly and godly fear. Seeing angels? Earthly fear made them tremble.

I don’t think it’s a problem as long as we pursue and understand the reasons behind WHY God should be feared. Then we should understand our reasons of fear. Fear of this world cuts off our ability of a confident faith, and to be able to approach Him boldly as Paul spoke of, and of the belief we need to have in prayer of trusting God, as Christ spoke of.

The fear of this world can be refined by the Almighty Holy Spirit. With His Spirit within us, we can cling to Him boldly. For it is not our power we can approach Him, but the burning power of His own Spirit radiating in our soul. ❤ 🙂 Amen, praise be to God!

    1. That’s exactly what want to be doing, and what every believer should be pursuing T.R, understanding the reasons behind why God should be feared. Your comment reminds me of Psalm 86:11 – Teach me your way Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness, give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Undivided hearts so we can have a healthy fear. Thanks for dropping by

  3. I agree with you, it’s a daily conviction to follow Christ. Scripture tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Prov. 9:10
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.1 Cor. 1:18
… the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. James 3:17″. Genuinely, you choose to be godly and fear God out of reverence of who He Is.. Once acknowledge life takes new meaning. And this is on a ‘one day at a time’ basis for each day brings new challenges that we overcome with Christ at the helm of our lives. Sometimes the road is not that easy to travel because of preconceived ideas and self interest, we gotta learn to let go of self and trust God, wholeheartedly.

Wonderful series, thank you for sharing.
    God bless your journey…
